Session 1530, Minutes Page 6
October 15, 1990
(me
Mayor Majerus asked if the Committee was requesting an additional $2500 for
this fiscal year. Ms. Hopper said no money was received this year. The Mayor
said she thought $2500 was in the budget. Mr. 011endorff said at this time
last year the Committee requested $2000, and Council appropriated it from Con-
tingency since the budget had already been finalized, but no request or provi-
sion was made in this year's budget for the Committee.
Responding to Mrs. Thompson, Mr. 011endorff said money for the Committee could
not cane from Contingency since the entire amount was spent on increased medi-
cal costs.
Mr. Schooner said the Camiittee's work has became a very important part of the
City and he cannot imagine doing without them; however, he also explained to
several members the City's fiscal constraints. He said he would like to meet
with the Finance Director and City Manager to see if there is sane way of ob-
taining funding for the Coamnittee.
Mr. Adams suggested that the Committee became involved earlier in the City's
budget process next year, and he also admired the fact that they were getting
the major portion of their funding from other sources.
Ms. Hopper said she was informed by Parks Director Charles Kohlenberger that
$2,000 was already in the budget for the Committee, from which he would deduct
the cost of signs the Park Department made for the CXamnittee. Ms. Hopper said
the Committee has had many requests for help and cannot keep going at its cur-
rent pace without additional funding.
Mayor Majerus said it would be necessary to work with the administration to
see if funds can be found for the Committee, and she agreed with Mr. Adams
that the Committee should come before the Council next year during the regular
budget process. She said she was sorry about the misunderstanding.
Mr. Don Wylan, 7354 Melrose, read a letter frau the Musick Neighborhood Asso-
ciation which urged that the City support the Beautification Committee's fund-
ing request. The Association also actively participates in the Commiittee's U.
City in Bloom program, which has resulted in an increased level of neighbor-
hood pride and incentive for better property upkeep. In addition, other com-
munities have complimented the City on this outstanding program, he said.
EMERGENCY REPLACEMENT OF CITY HAIL AIR CONDITIONING COMPRESSOR
The City Manager recommended approval of the emergency expenditure of $8,601
for replacing the City Hall air conditioning system compressor, which broke
down on October 2nd and could not be repaired. County Heating and Cooling,
the company that maintains the system, submitted the proposal.
Mrs. Schuman moved approval and Mr. Price seconded the motion. All voted Aye.
PICNIC LICENSE - CLASSICAL GUITAR SOCIETY
(re The City Manager said the St. Louis Classical Guitar Society requested a pic-
nic license to sell beer and wine during intermission at performances at CASA
