Session 1533, Minutes Page 6
December 10, 1990
to ensure that, he is suggesting that the City vacate the balance of the
street right-of- ray. Building a home requires 50 feet of frontage on a paved
public street; if the remainder of the street is vacated, no one can pave it
and no additional home can be built. Mr. Cramer said the neighbors were not
notified this matter was to be on the agenda, and he asked if another public
hearing could be scheduled. Mayor Majerus did not feel a public hearing was
necessary, but said anyone who wishes to speak on this will be heard. She
noted that an ordinance must be drafted which could not be acted on before
the last meeting in January, giving neighbors plenty of time to address Coun-
cil. Mr. 011endorff said notices could be sent prior to that meeting, and
Council agreed that should be done.
Mr. Schoomer asked that the appropriate legislation be prepared and that the
City View Place neighbors be advised of its progress.
Responding to Mr. Price, Mr. Cramer said the neighbors found out this item
was to be on the agenda through a newspaper article. Mayor Majerus accepted
responsibility, suggesting she believed a more appropriate time for neighbors
to be notified was when same action might be taken by Council on the vacation
rather than the City Manager simply making a report to Council.
Jeff and Joyce May, 7351 Tulane, thanked Mr. 011endorff for all his work on
this matter and said they hoped all the issues will be resolved to everyone's
satisfaction. Mr. May agreed there should be an area for large vehicles such
as fire and refuse trucks to service his property; however, he had some con-
cerns about the paving requirements. He did agree with the basic proposals
suggested by the City Manager regarding the street vacation. Mrs. May said
all she and her husband were requesting was the right to a right-of-way which
all other property owners have. She said they were both strong environmen-
talists and would destroy no more trees than absolutely necessary. She noted
for the record that she donated aver 100 hours to produce, direct, and edit a
commercial to support the cause of Earth Day, 1990.
LIQUOR LICENSE - GOLF SHOP
The City Manager recommended approval of a license to sell beer by the drink
at the Ruth Park Golf Course Clubhouse. The applicant, Ronald M. Akin, meets
all City requirements and has a clear record.
Mr. Schoomer moved approval. Mrs. Schuman seconded the motion, which carried
unanimously.
OATH OF OFFICE
Mr. Cloris Boyd, Jr. , who was reappointed to the Board of Adjustment at the
last meeting, was given the oath of office by the City Clerk. Mayor Majerus
thanked Mr. Boyd for his willingness to serve again, noting that the Board of
Adjustment is a very important group to the City.
(re DISTINGUISHED VISITORS
Mr. Schoomer noted that State Representative Sheila Lumpe was in the audience
