Traffic Commission
6801 Delmar Boulevard, University City, Missouri 63130, Phone: (314) 505-8560, Fax: (314) 862-0694
Patty Skinner had an accident while pulling out of the driveway. Mr. Skinner also pointed
out that if it’s not a small car parked in front of his house that also makes it difficult to back
out. Mr. Skinner closed by saying that it has been much safer for him and his family having
Trinity Closed.
Commissioner Wofsey advised that the closing of Trinity is a test. Nevertheless, The Traffic
Commission will make a recommendation and it will go to council.
Pam Schmidt, 6901 Washington Ave - United Methodist Preschool
Ms. Schmidt pointed out the School address is on Washington, but all of the coming in and
going out is on Trinity Ave thus Ms. Schmidt would like to propose opening the south bound
part of Trinity. Ms. Schmidt explained that the school is open approximately 200 days per
year with 70 children enrolled. Each day there are about 50 cars coming in the morning to
drop off kids and at 11:30 to pick up kids. Ms. Schmidt pointed out that a few times this
winter traffic was backed up into the roundabout on Delmar because traffic wasn’t moving
as fast as when Trinity was open. Ms. Schmidt expressed that she would like to support
opening Trinity Ave, going south of Delmar Blvd and making it a right turn only. Ms. Schmidt
expressed that closing Trinity eliminates parking and is a safety issue.
Alice Moore, 6901 Washington Ave - United Methodist Church
Ms. Moore expressed her concern about losing 10 parking spaces at the church. Also, she
would like to propose two lanes east bound and one going west bound lane. Ms. Moore
stated that there is no need to have two lanes going west bound.
Kurt Martin, 410 Melville – Ames Place resident
Mr. Martin expressed that he strongly supports keeping Trinity Ave closed. He stated that
turning into Trinity from Delmar is a blind turn and it’s hard to see people crossing the
street. He stated that safety should be the number one priority and the parking issue
should come second to that.
Commissioner Hales expressed that the discussion about safety was addressed in the
November meeting. One of the discussions that took place was that the crosswalk was to
be moved down south of the intersection. Also, there was discussion about having barriers
put on the sidewalk to prevent people from continuing down the sidewalk.
Commissioner Wofsey asked Mr. Moore if parking was restricted going west of Washington
Ave because it’s private. Ms. Moore explained that the parking in front of the Church along
Washington is allowed for the church.
Ms. Gutierrez explained that invitations for tonight’s meeting were sent to the same group of
residents that were sent out last November. Ms. Gutierrez received three emails, one of
which was from Mr. Martin (who was present), another email was supporting the Trinity
Page 5
Traffic Commission Minutes – May 14, 2014
