Sessic~ 1583, M_ir~
Jam~y 11, 1993

Page 3

Mr. Jay Mueller, American Err/ineering, 9900 Crestwick, said his cumpany did
not have a specific use for the pLuperty at present, hut rec}~_ested the rezon-
ing (excluding tb~ adjacent ce~Btery) to allow more ~dc~s. ~ displayed
site drawings and suggested several pcesible uses. He note4__ that the Plan

Mr. Rudy Oppe/lheim, 7561 Drexel, o~m~ery president, was concerned about a
non-appLupriate use of the pzuperty but did not object to an offioe building
or scmething similar. He said a Jewish c~ cannot be moved and he want-
ed only to ensure that the ce~ and parking eas--m~nt are protectS. In
response to Mr. ~a~ms, Mr. CRoenhe/m said Mr. Mueller assured him verbally
that cemetery interests will be pro~cted, but be wished to be certain.

Mr. Bernard Mayer, 701 Deauville Court, said be and several other cemetery
lot ~ners object~ strenuously to rezc~ing this pkuperty because it contains
a monument to Jews killed in cc~lcentratic~l c~m~s. Rezoning would show bad
faith on Council's part, and he particularly did not want a fast food restau-
rant, as sugges~ in a newspaper article. He felt anyone applying for re-
zoning should have a specific project to preserfc that is c~atlble with the
cemetery. Mayor Majerus said only tha rezoning is being considered at the
moment. Mr. Mayer said he was opposed because it was incompatible with the
cemetery and the memorial.

Mr. Bengt Dalemar, 7420 Saleen Court, w~s concerned about the type of estab-
lishment that might be put on the pLu~_rty, and that rezoning it "GC" allowed
too many possibilities. He did not want a large ugly building put up which
faced his back lrard, and suggested dividing the p~-o~erty into two pieces with
the front half rez~ned and the back half made into a park. He noted the
property was quite deep.

Ma. Brenda Walker, 7405 Anrose Drive, said she was upposed to rezoning this
property because of problems she ba_~ with former tenants, alleging they did
not maintain it properly. She did not object to rezoning tha front part of
the property but did not want the back part rez~ned.

Mr. Helry Cann, 726 Eastgate, said as an officer and prospective tenant of
the cemetery, he had no objection to rezoning the p=uperty, but wanted the
cemetery left alone.

Mayor Majerus closed the public hearing at 8:13 p.m.

Mr. ~a~ms asked that a bill be prepared to rezc~e this p~uperty.

Mr. Schocmer said even if rezoned, public hearings must be held before the
Plan C~uzdssion and City Council before any use can be made of the property,
and all laws on zoning, parking, access, ~=~nts, setbacks, etc. must be
obeyed. He said Council will protect citizen interests.

Mr. Ollendorff confirmed Mr. Prioe's statement that use of a property cannot
change without going through another approval process.

Mrs. Schuman said the Plan C~Lm,~ssion rec~,~endad that Council approve only
