Session 1788 <br />July 10, 2000 <br /> <br />Mr. Smith thanked Council for being honored in this fashion. He stated that in 1928, it <br />was Lloyd T. Smith Hardware. In 1947, it was Lloyd T. Smith & Son Hardware. In 1968, <br />when his father died it was Smith Hardware. About 1974, it was Smith True Value <br />Hardware. Their goal was to serve the citizens of University City with honor and dignity <br />and get their job done. It has been an interesting life for him. More applause followed. <br /> <br />Ms. Ann Niederlander, a Northmoor resident, said that Mr. Smith had been a wonderful <br />asset to everyone in this community. He was the one to go to when you didn't know how <br />to do anything or when you thought your house was falling down. He would tell her what <br />needed to be done on innumerable occasions. She is very sorry to see him go, but she <br />hopes he is happy and is sure he will help people where ever he is. <br /> <br />ANNOUNCEMENTS: <br /> <br />Mayor Adams reminded Council and the audience that tonight was the start of the Starlight <br />Concert Series at Heman Park. The run of the program is tonight and each Monday night <br />up to the evening of August 28, which is the last program for the summer. <br /> <br />On Tuesday nights at 7 p.m., in the Market in the Loop, there is the U. City Summer <br />Concert Band to also enjoy. <br /> <br />CITY MANAGER'S REPORTS: <br /> <br />AGENDA #1 - CONSENT CALENDAR (8 ITEMS): <br /> <br />#1 - Snow and Ice Control Salt Haulin~ and Unloading: Invitations for Bids were issued <br />for 500 tons of snow and ice control salt. Bids were received from four companies.
