Session 1791
August 21, 2000

Council may not impose such limitations, but they can be voluntarily offered by the
proprietor.

Mr. Sharpe moved approval. Ms. Colquitt seconded the motion.

Responding to Mr. Lieberman, Mr. Ollendorff said that there was a distance restriction from
schools, but he did not recall that there were any from religious institutions. He is not
positive, but he will check it out to make sure.

Mr. Sharpe wondered what the City's recourse would be should this applicant decide to do
something else with this liquor license other than what is listed as the proposed use. Mr.
Ollendorff responded that there were no clear cut remedies, such as canceling the license,
other than a legal suit which would prove that they applied for the license under false
pretenses.

Ms. Laurie Hansell, 8137 Delmar, applicant and owner of Sweet D'Lite stated that many of
their customers asked for some kosher wine in the candy gift basket. They would love to,
in the future, grow into a specialty food store - could they do more with this liquor license
or would they have to reapply. Mr. Ollendorff stated that they would like for them to come
and reapply at that point. They do not want to see a wine or liquor store. Liquor sales
should be a minor part of the business. The Council would definitely appreciate them
reapplying if they wish to do something different.

The motion carried unanimously

ADD AN AGENDA ITEM:

Mr. Ollendorff asked to add an item to the agenda dealing with the U. City Fire
Department's Labor Day weekend solicitation.

Ms. Colquitt moved approval to add the agenda item. Mr. Sharpe seconded the motion,
which carried unanimously.

AGENDA ITEM #7: CHARITABLE SOLICITATION - U. CITY FIRE DEPARTMENT:

Members of the University City Fire Department request permission to conduct their annual
charitable solicitation in front of Value City and Schnucks over the Labor Day weekend.
The proceeds are contributed to the Muscular Dystrophy Association. Members of our
department have been conducting this activity for many years with good success.

5
