17-404.5 Correctional institutional occupancies: It is not intended that <br />this code regulate the space requirements of correctional institutions. <br /> <br />17-404.6 Minimum room widths: Habitable spaces shall have a clear room width <br />at the narrowest point exclusive of projections affecting less than 10 percent <br />of the floor area and exclusive of floor areas of alcoves and entry ways not <br />included in meeting the floor area requirements listed in Table 17-404.2, <br />which is not less than the following: <br /> <br />Living Rooms: <br />Dining Rooms: <br />Other habitable rooms: <br /> <br />10'-0" (3048 nun) <br /> 7'-8" (2338 mm) <br /> 7'-0" (2134 mm) <br /> <br />Exception: Kitchens require a clear paasageway of not less than 3 <br /> feet (914 mm) between counters, appliances and/or walls. <br /> <br />ARTICLE 5 <br /> <br />PLUMBING FACILITIES AND FIXTURE REQUIREMENTS <br /> <br />SECTION 17-500.0 GENERAL <br /> <br />17-500.1 Scope: The provisions of this article shall govern the minimum <br />plumbing facilities and fixtures to be provided. All plumbing facilities and <br />fixtures shall comply with the requirements herein prescribed insofar as they <br />are applicable. <br /> <br />17-500.2 Responsibility: The owner of the structure shall provide and main- <br />tain such plumbing facilities and fixtures in compliance with these <br />requirements. A person shall not occupy as owner-occupant or let to another <br />for occupancy or use any structure or portion thereof or premises which does <br />not comply with the following requirements of this article. <br /> <br />SECTION 17-501.0 REQUIRED FACILITIES <br /> <br />17-501.1 Dwelling units: Every dwelling unit shall include its own plumbing <br />facilities which are in proper operating condition, can be used in privacy~ <br />and are adequate for personal cleanliness and the disposal of human waste. <br />The following minimum plumbing facilities set forth in Sections 17-501.1.1 <br />through 17-501.1.3 shall be supplied and maintained in a sanitary and safe <br />working condition. <br /> <br />17-501.1.1 Water closet and lavatory: Every dwelling unit shall contain <br />within its walls a room, separate from habitable rooms, which affords privacy <br />and contains a water closet supplied with cold running water. A lavatory <br />shall be placed in the same room as the water closet, or located in another <br />room in close proximity to the door leading directly into the room in which <br />said water closet is located. The lavatory shall be supplied with hot and <br />cold running water. <br /> <br />Every dwelling unit with more than seven occupants shall contain additional <br />plumbing fixtures at the rate of one additional water closet and one addi- <br />tional lavatory for each additional four occupants or fraction thereof. <br /> <br />17-501.1.2 Bathtub or shower: Every dwelling unit shall contain a room which <br />affords privacy to a person in said room and which is equipped with a bathtub <br />or shower supplied with hot and cold running water. <br /> <br />17-501.1.3 Kitchen sink: Every dwelling unit shall contain a kitchen sink <br />apart from the lavatory required under Section 17-501.1.1 and such sink shall <br />be supplied with hot and cold running water. <br /> <br />17-501.2 Rooming houses: At least one water closet, lavatory basin and bath- <br />tub or shower properly connected to an approved water and sewer system and in <br />good working condition shall be supplied for each four rooms within a rooming <br />house, wherever said facilities are shared. Every lavatory basin and bathtub <br />or shower shall be supplied with hot and cold water at all times. <br /> <br />22 <br /> <br /> <br />
