<br />(SECTION 602 CONSTRUCTION CLASSIFICATION) <br /> <br />602.3 Type III:. Type III construction is that type of construction in which the exterior <br />walls are of noncombustible materials and the interior building elements are of any material <br />permitted by this code. <br /> <br />(CHAPTER 7 FIRE-RESISTANCE-RATED CONSTRUCTION) <br /> <br />(SECTION 717 CONCEALED SPACES) <br /> <br />717.2.1 Fireblocking materials: Fireblocking shall consist of2-inch nominal lumber or <br />two thicknesses of 1-inch nominal lumber with broken lap joints or one thickness of %" <br />wood structural panel with joints backed up, gypsum board, cement fiber board, batts of <br />mineral wool insulation or other approved materials installed in such a manner as to be <br />securely retained in place shall be permitted for compliance with the 10 foot horizontal <br />fireblock walls constructed using parallel rows of studs or staggered studs. Loose-fill <br />insulation material shall not be used as a fireblock unless specifically tested in the form and <br />manner intended for use to demonstrate its ability to remain in place and to retard the <br />spread of fire and hot gases. The integrity of fireblocks shall be maintained. <br /> <br />717.2.1 Double stud walls: Batts or blankets of mineral wool or other approved nonrigid <br />materials shall be allowed as fireblocking in walls constructed using parallel rows of studs <br />and staggered studs. <br /> <br />(CHAPTER 9 FIRE PROTECTION SYSTEMS) <br /> <br />(SECTION 903 AUTOMATIC SPRINKLER SYSTEMS) <br /> <br />[F] 903.2.7.1 Group R-2: An automatic fire suppression system shall be provided <br />throughout all buildings with an occupancy in Group R-2, other than residential care <br />facilities, in accordance with Section 903. <br /> <br />Exception: Buildings which meet all of the following conditions: <br /> <br />1. Maximum of two stores, counting a basement as a story; <br />2. Maximum of 12 dwelling units per fire area; and <br />3.
