Session 1793
September 25, 2000

CITY CLERK'S DOCKET:

No business.

CITIZEN COMMENTS:

Versia Cross, 6847 Raymond, representing the MR JR Neighborhood Association, stated
that there were some concerns that the Police were not patrolling like they once did. You
see them every so often coming through as if they are trying to get some where, but they
are not carefully going through the neighborhood, on watch for suspicious behavior. She
said that the next resident will speak more on this issue.

Sandra Hewitt, represents the 6800 and 6900 blocks of Roberrs. She noticed that the
consent calendar called for approval of street and sidewalk repairs and she wished to see
that this is carried out in the 6800 and 6900 blocks of Roberts. Often one has to dodge
trash dumpsters and cans that are left in the street. Lids have been torn off and she has
had to have hers replaced three times. She reported that the duplex at 6927 Roberts is
condemned, yet every other week, there are people living in the building. The neighbors
suspect that illegal behavior is occurring within the building. The neighbors are also
concerned that more police protection is needed. They see the police cars casually drive
through, but they are not patrolling the neighborhood. She would really like each of these
concerns looked into by the City.

Versia Cross, 6847 Raymond, wished to report some other concerns not previously
mentioned. She stated that there were some young men causing trouble, such as putting
flowers that were on one porch and putting them on another. The neighbor are scared to
call the police, for fear that the people causing the trouble will see where the police are
going to and may cause trouble for them. Ms. Cross asked Ms. Hewitt to come up again
and explain another concern not mentioned earlier.

Sandra Hewitt, representing the 6800 and 6900 blocks of Roberts, stated that there is an
alley behind the 6900 block of Roberts, coming into Pennsylvania, which is not paved.
The residents were told that it would take $2,500 to pave it. The kids are throwing the
gravel and rocks and throwing them at people's cars. They really need police patrol in this
area to discourage these young people not to cause more trouble. Ms. Cross asked if the
police had certain areas that they were to patrol on a regular timeframe. The young men
are hanging out on the bridge, drinking and smoking pot.

Mr. Schoomer directed the City Manager to report on the status of the condemned building
at 6927 Roberts. He also would like to see a report on the nature of street patrol in this
area and also report his findings back to Ms. Colquitt and Mr. Sharpe so they can inform

3
